Welcome to the Family

 

Here at Compassion Church - Suffolk, we are a family consumed by our passion for Jesus Christ, stepping out of the “norm”, so that ALL may experience God’s love. We look forward with great expectation to see how God will move among us. We are real people with a real desire to know God in a deeper way by uncovering His majesty through His Word, prayer and fellowship. WHO WE ARE

OUR PURPOSE

“To reach people with the life-giving message of Jesus that they might become fully devoted followers of Christ.”

Our statement of purpose is based on two teachings of Jesus:

LOVE GOD – LOVE OTHERS                                                          

Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

We look to extend grace to all of the lost and broken, and lead those with no hope to the hope of Jesus Christ.

OUR HISTORY

SMALL BEGINNINGS

Family Harvest Church was planted by Pastor Ted Fortenbery. The first church service was on March 2, 2008

The Family Harvest Story began to unfold. Pastor Ted Fortenberry led Family Harvest for 7 years before he was called to pastor a church in Covington VA. 

Pastor Win Anderson, appointed as lead pastor February 16th 2014, had dreamed of a church with a simple goal—to help people connect with God so that they might reach their full potential and with the help of the Dream Team, a committed leadership team, Family Harvest is seeing this dream become a reality. In March of 2023 we joined Compassion Network and transitioned to Compassion Church Suffolk . Compassion Church started as one location that wanted to see people from every walk of life experience a true, life-changing relationship with Jesus. From the beginning, we wanted to help people who were far from God find hope in Jesus Christ. So that’s what we did! It has been amazing to see what God has done up to this point. We can’t wait to see what He has in store for the future!

Hi, my name is Win. 

 I believe that you are uniquely wired by God for a specific purpose, and that unless you figure out what that purpose is, you'll never be truly fulfilled. 

 No one else on earth can fulfill the unique calling that God has for you. 

 No one else can fulfill your assignment.  

 Maybe you know exactly what your purpose is, maybe you've been running from it for a while, or maybe you have absolutely no idea where to even start looking for it... 

 But I want to help you find it. 

 Because I believe that the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who actually do... 

Mark Holland

Associate Pastor

I am Mark, I am the Associate Pastor and Music Director here at Compassion Suffolk.  We welcome you to this family centered, Bible focused ministry. We pray your needs are met and hurts are healed by the help of Holy Spirit moving in this place. In the name Jesus, Amen.

Heather & Clayton Gray

Youth Leader

Heather & Clayton Gray are our student ministry leaders. They desire to see each and every student become everything God wants them to be and realize the amazing future they have with Him. 

Teresa Holland

Children's Ministry Director

Teresa is our Compassion Kids leader. Wife of 34 years, mother of two, and Grammy to 3. Born and raised in Suffolk, experienced the everlasting love of the Savior when saved and baptized at 11 years of age. Motherhood began a 20+ year journey with Kid's Ministry ranging from Children's Choirs, Sunday School teacher, and now Kid's Ministry Director. Kid's Ministry at Compassion Church - Suffolk, where our vision is to provide an atmosphere and equip children to know Christ for themselves.
